Peanut stew, also calledΒ maafeΒ orΒ domodah, originated in western Africa. An original dish of the Mandinka and Bambara people of Mali, peanut stew shows up in different variations in cuisines of both western and central Africa.

Β 28 oz 1 can diced tomatoes undrained
Β 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves
Β 3 garlic cloves, halved
Β 2 tsp ground cumin
Β 1 tsp salt
Β Β½ tsp ground cinnamon
Β ΒΌ tsp smoked paprika
Β 3 lbs sweet potatoes (about 6 medium)peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
Β 15 oz 1 can garbanzo beans or chickpeas,rinsed and drained
Β 1 cup water
Β 8 cups chopped fresh kale
Β Optional: Chopped peanuts and additional cilantro leaves
