This Burundian dish is a great recipe to feed a crowd on a rainy day. Itโ€™s hearty dish and a good way to stretch a small amount of meat. We especially liked the crispy fried shallots on top.

ย 1 ยฝ cups bulgur wheat
ย 1 large onion, diced
ย 6 tbsp gheedivided
ย 1 skinless chicken breast (bone-in or not)
ย 1 tsp salt
ย 2 tbsp turmeric
ย 3 sets chicken giblets, chopped (I bought hearts & gizzards)
ย 1โ„4 cup water
ย 3 tbsp sugar
ย Salt to taste
ย 3 shallots or 1 small onion, thinly sliced into rings
