This Burundian dish is a great recipe to feed a crowd on a rainy day. It’s hearty dish and a good way to stretch a small amount of meat. We especially liked the crispy fried shallots on top.

 1 ½ cups bulgur wheat
 1 large onion, diced
 6 tbsp gheedivided
1 skinless chicken breast (bone-in or not)
 1 tsp salt
 2 tbsp turmeric
3 sets chicken giblets, chopped (I bought hearts & gizzards)
 1⁄4 cup water
 3 tbsp sugar
 Salt to taste
3 shallots or 1 small onion, thinly sliced into rings
