Making Milktart – South African Dessert By New At Cooking

This milk tart is a traditional South African comfort food and is usually served chilled as a dessert or afternoon tea treat. The tart has a stiff consistency, somewhat similar to Panna Cotta, but thicker. Usually, this milk tart's thick consistency is achieved using corn starch or egg whites, however, as this recipe proves, arrowroot powder works as a viable alternative.
A milk tart or melktert in Afrikaans is as the name suggests, a tart whose main ingredient is a milk based custard. With its Dutch spice origins, the tart is sprinkled with a generous amount of cinnamon sugar on top. It smells as good when it is baking that the only tough thing is waiting until the next day to eat it!
